"In between the brilliance of gems, there is gap (lackluster) in a necklace. Between streaks of light are some shadows. Between expanse of cultivated farm, there is boundaries where there is nothing. All the above things - gems, light and farms look beautiful (and meaningful) only when they exist with (and right next to) their antithesis." - Mankutimma

"What if everything that can be seen is destroyed? We can not do anything about it. But to see whatever is accessible to our senses now is to be seen. Only by experiencing this world can we hope to reach the cosmic spirit or universal soul. This is the only path from destructible to permanent" - Mankutimma

"Our life here is real. It is not up to us to discuss (and decide) how it came into existence. Let us leave that to God. We are here. We have to strive to make this place more beautiful and prosperous. We should think in those lines. It must be the goal of all our worldly endeavors." - Mankutimma

ದೇಹವೆಂಬುದು ಕುದುರೆಯಾತ್ಮನದರಾರೋಹಿ ।

ರೋಹಿ ಜಾಗ್ರತೆದಪ್ಪೆ ಯಾತ್ರೆ ಸುಖ ಸಾಗೀತೆ? ।

"Body is a horse. Soul is the rider. If the vehicle is starved, will it move? If the rider is not alert, then can the journey be safe and happy? It is best if both the horse and the rider are friends with each other." - Mankutimma

ಕಲ್ಮಷದ ವಲ್ಮೀಕವೆಂದೊಡಲ ಜರೆಯದಿರು ।

"Don't berate the body as an ant hill (snake's house) full of impurities (and poison). The ancient sages have proclaimed it as the abode of the Creator himself. If one can keep the energetic horse under control, the he can go to places. We can definitely reach our goals. We have five horses (senses)." - Mankutimma

ಆಯುಧವನದನು ತೊರೆದಾತ್ಮನೇಂಗೈದಪನು ।

ದೇಹಾತುಮಂಗಳೆರಡಂಗಗಳು ಜೀವನಕೆ ।
ನೇಹದಿಂದೊಂದನೊಂದಾದರಿಸೆ ಲೇಸು ॥
ದಾಹಗೊಂಡಿರಲೊಂದು ಮಿಕ್ಕೊಂದಕೆಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಖ? ।
ದ್ರೋಹ ಬೇಡೊಂದಕಂ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೩೮೮ ॥


dEha AtumangaLu eraDu angagaLu jIvanake ।
nEhadinda ondanondAdu arise lEsu ॥
dAhagonDiralondu mikkondakelli sukha? ।

ರದನೋದಯಜ್ವರಕೆ ಸಿಲುಕದಿಹ ಶಿಶುವಿರದು ।
ವಿಧಿಯೊದೆಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕದಿಹ ನರಜಂತುವಿರದು ॥
ಒದೆಪೆಟ್ಟು ಮುಗಿದಂದು ರಾಹುದಂಷ್ಟ್ರದೆ ಹೊರಟ ।
ವಿಧುಬಿಂಬವೋ ನೀನು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೩೮೭ ॥


radanOdayajvarake silukadiha shishuviradu ।
vidhiyodege sikkadiha narajantuviradu ॥

"When a baby is about grow teeth, it will go through the pain of fever. It is very natural and no child has ever escaped the fate. Once you get through it, you will come out stronger and brighter like the image of the Moon escaping from the mouth of Rahu (after eclipse)." - Mankutimma

ಹೃದಯದುಬ್ಬರವೇನು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯುಬ್ಬರದಂತೆ ।
ಅದರಿಳಿತ ಕೊರಳ ನಾದದ ಸದ್ದಿನಿಂದ ॥
ಅದೆ ನಗುವು ದುಗುಡಗಳು, ಅದೆ ಹೊಗಳು ತೆಗಳುಗಳು ।
ಅದನಿಳಿಸೆ ಶಾಂತಿಯೆಲೋ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೩೮೬ ॥

adariLita koraLa nAdada saddininda ॥
ade naguvu duguDagaLu, ade hogaLu tegaLugaLu ।
adaniLise shAntiyelO - Mankutimma ॥ 386 ॥

"When the stomach is full, the uneasiness subsides when you burp - let out a relieving sound from the food pipe. What should one do when you feel full in the heart? You laugh, cry, praise, condemn and let it out. Once you let it out, you will feel relieved." - Mankutimma

ದಾಸರೋ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲ ಶುನಕನಂದದಿ ಜಗದಿ ।
ವಾಸನೆಗಳೆಳೆತಕ್ಕೆ ದಿಕ್ಕು ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲಿ ॥
ಪಾಶಗಳು ಹೊರಗೆ, ಕೊಂಡಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗಿಹವು ।
ವಾಸನಾಕ್ಷಯ ಮೋಕ್ಷ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೩೮೫ ॥


dAsarO nAvella shunakanandadi jagadi ।
vAsanegaLu eLetakke dikku dikkinali ॥
pAshagaLu horage, konDigaLu nammoLagihavu ।
vAsanAkshaya mOksha - Mankutimma ॥ 385 ॥

"We are all servants. We follow our desires like dogs follow the scent (of food) in all directions. The strings that yank us (the desires) are no doubt, outside us. But the hook that ties them to us are with in us. If we make our mind up, we can unhook us from those strings. To reduce our indulgence is no less than salvation." - Mankutimma

ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯಲಿ ಹಸಿವು, ಮನದಲಿ ಮಮತೆ - ಈ ಎರಡು ।
ಗುಟ್ಟು ಕೀಲುಗಳಿಹವು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಂತ್ರದಲಿ ॥
ಕಟ್ಟಿಪುವು ಕೋಟೆಗಳ, ಕೀಳಿಪುವು ತಾರೆಗಳ ।
ಸೊಟ್ಟಾಗಿಪುವು ನಿನ್ನ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೩೮೪ ॥


hoTTeyali hasivu, manadali mamate - ee eraDu ।
huTTu kIlugaLu ihavu sRuShTi yantradali ॥
kaTTipuvu kOTegaLa, kILipuvu tAregaLa ।
soTTAgipuvu ninna - Mankutimma ॥ 384 ॥
